ABOUT THIS SESSION
Why Specific Energy is not just about the Pump
Specific Energy is almost always quoted as a pump characteristic. It isn't one. It measures the whole system, and it shifts every time pipe sizing, water velocity, system resistance or pipeline condition changes. Put the same pump into two different systems and you will get two different figures for kWh/ML.
These free sessions introduce a practical, system-level view of water and wastewater pumping, the same principles Rob Welke has taught to hundreds of professionals across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the USA and Europe.
→ What Specific Energy actually measures, and what it does not
→ Where pumping energy is really consumed across a water or wastewater network
→ How pipe sizing and water velocity quietly drive up power costs
→ How pipeline C-value degradation raises Specific Energy over the life of an asset
→ Why pumping emissions reporting under ISSB, ASRS and the European Taxonomy depends on system-level figures
→ Worked examples from real water and wastewater pumping systems
WHAT YOU’LL EXPLORE IN THIS SESSION
What Specific Energy actually measures, and what it doesn't
Why Specific Energy is a system metric, not a pump metric
Where pumping energy is really consumed across a water or wastewater network
How pipeline C-value degradation quietly inflates kWh/ML over time
How Sustainable Pumping principles apply to water and wastewater assets
Worked examples from real systems, plus live Q&A with Rob
WHO IS THIS FOR
Designed for Water professionals
This session is designed for water pumping professionals who make decisions about system design, operation, or procurement, and who want to understand the long term energy implications of those decisions.
