Sustainable Pumping Calculators

For Irrigation and Water & Wastewater

These demonstration videos show how Water Pumping Institute’s calculators are used in real world pumping decisions. Each tool is designed to simplify complex hydraulic thinking, helping you move from assumptions to clarity when designing, reviewing, or optimising pumping systems. Watch the demos to understand what each calculator does, why it matters, and how it can support more efficient, reliable and sustainable outcomes.

HYDRopz

System Design Optimiser

Hydropz brings the fundamentals of hydraulics into a clear, visual space that makes system behaviour easier to understand. It allows you to explore how flow, head, friction and pipe characteristics interact across a pumping system, helping turn abstract calculations into something you can actually see and reason with.

This tool is particularly useful for testing scenarios, sense checking designs, and building intuition around how changes in pipe size, flow rate or system layout affect performance and energy demand. It is as valuable for learning as it is for practical system review and optimisation.

Watch the demonstration video to see how Hydropz can be used to explore system behaviour, compare options, and support clearer, more confident hydraulic decisions.

PDS

Pump Duty Selection

Getting pump duty wrong is one of the most common causes of poor performance and unnecessary energy use. The Pump Duty Selection calculator helps define the true operating duty of a pumping system based on real flow and head requirements, not assumptions or legacy designs.

This tool is useful when assessing existing systems, comparing pump options, or troubleshooting inefficiency. By clearly identifying the required duty point, it becomes much easier to select or evaluate pumps that operate in their most efficient range, reducing operating costs and long term wear.

Watch the demonstration video to see how the calculator works and how it supports more confident, sustainable pump selection decisions.

Site Test C Value

Measure Friction with H&W

This short demonstration introduces the Site Test C Value App, a practical field tool designed to measure and benchmark pipeline friction in both new and existing rising mains. You will see how simple inputs like gauge elevations, pressures, flow rate, pipe size, length, and fittings are used to calculate an accurate corrected C Value, separating true pipe condition from fitting losses. Built on more than 55 years of real world pipeline testing experience, the app gives operators and engineers a clear, reliable snapshot of internal pipeline performance, right there on site.
